I want to start by saying, I understand what it is like to have a child with ASD. I also understand the challenges, frustrations and desire to better connect with your child.
As a single mother of three, and my son with ASD, we faced many obstacles, some small and some significant. Since my son was a toddler, I have not only been his cheerleader but his advocate. It still amazes me how often we as parents have to fight for our child.
One example would be when the public school was denying my son's advancement into middle school. I sat across from all of these individuals, varied position, as they told me; "Your son needs a special school". I remember feeling frustrated, alone and intimidated, but I was not backing down until I prevailed. I continued to work with my son on a daily basis. I found turning the learning lessons into games made it more fun. In doing so, it also gave my son, his two sisters and me something to connect on. Another example of challenges came when the specialists all agreed he would never drive, go away to college or live on his own. I continued working with my son. In spite of all the specialists and school Board, my son finished public school and was the Valedictorian of his senior class. He also went to college and lived in a dorm. My son lives on his own and in a house he purchased. He not only drives, but he belongs to various autocross clubs where he races cars. I am so proud of my son and I am over the moon to see him so happy.
I soon discovered turning the life lessons and social pieces into games made it fun to do!
I have learned a lot from my son, as well, and while we may see the world differently, literally, he is living his best life! I hope our story inspires others. I am excited to introduce my edutainment game, a dream of mine to help others, is finally here!, I know what something like this can do to help those with ASD and their families, If you take anything away from what I shared, I hope it is that anything is possible, regardless of what you are told.
Have fun playing and exploring!
All my best,
